    How to get there

    From Tokyo
The fastest way to get to Ohara by train is to take the Keiyo Line 'Wakashio' which leaves Tokyo Station on the hour (although not every hour so check the schedule). This departs from Tokyo Stn. Keiyo Underground Platform #1 and takes 71 minutes. The Keiyo Line is closer to Nijubashimae Station (on the Chiyoda Line) so give yourself about 15 minutes if you are walking from Tokyo Station (it's right underneath Tokyo International Forum, which is where you should head if coming by cab). Most 'Wakashio' trains run through to Awa Kamagawa but some only go as far as Kazusa Ichinomiya, where you would need to change to a local JR Sotobo Line train and take 4 stops to Ohara.

The Keiyo Line also has regular Limited Express trains that run out to Ohara (or Ka...

Markus and his wife have created a stunningly beautiful, peaceful haven set in a colourful clifftop garden overlooking the ocean where my family were more than content to spend a week relaxing and soaking up the wonderful views. Coming to Japan for the first time from the UK, we found Markus and his wife's presence attentive, helpful and reassuring without intruding into our privacy. Markus's guidance on selecting food from the supermarket for our first evening meal in Japan was definitely appreciated and a very thoughtful touch. We thoroughly enjoyed cycling around the area each day but the highlight was probably our BBQ on the final evening whereupon Markus's wife surprised us by making us desserts - a lovely thoughtful gesture of kindness. more

We stayed at the yurt towards the end of our honeymoon travelling across Japan, and it was brilliant. Markus picked us up at the station and took us via the supermarket so we could stock up on supplies. Both he and his wife were hugely friendly and helpful, hiring us bikes, giving us eggs from their chickens, providing a map of the local area... lovely! The yurt is great - pretty big but it gets warm very quickly if you are there in slightly cooler weather like we were. Sitting in the hottub under the stars, listening to the pacific, or making breakfast outside in the cabana were absolute highlights of our whole trip. It was well worth the train ride out of Tokyo to reach somewhere so relaxing and peaceful. I'd definitely recommend a stay here as a compulsory part of your Japanese holiday! more

Amaaaazing spot overlooking the ocean. By far the best view of anywhere we have stayed, hands down. The yurt was extremely comfortable and clean, and had everything you'd need for a weekend away - a little kitchen, stereo with CDs (which was perfect for some tunes outside), umbrellas, coffee, toaster, TV, DVDs, wifi, games etc. The weather was pretty cold in Tokyo so we were worried it'd be freezing in the yurt, but it was toasty warm with the wood fire going. It is very well insulated! We also had the warm spa to relax in.

We stayed for a weekend and caught the train in from Tokyo on a Friday night. Was very easy. Markus picked us up from the train station and took us to the supermarket to buy some things for dinner. Such a nice host! The cabana next to the yurt is the perfect spot to cook up a meal and enjoy the sound of the ocean.

We walked about a half hour to a little Izakaya on Saturday night, the food was great (super fresh sashimi) and the locals there were...
