    Valentia Island
    Rental Home –
    3 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 5
With one of the best views in Ireland our comfortable cottage is ideal for families, close to sheltered and unspoilt Glanleam beach. Valentia is connected to the mainland of County Kerry by a bridge and a ferry service. The cottage which is over 200 years old is privately owned and is one of a pair that were originally part of the Knight of Kerry's Glanleam Estate. The cottage has been owned by the same family for several generations and has been sympathetically modernised.

Valentia Island is linked to the mainland by the bridge at Potmagee and by a small roll-on roll-off ferry that runs continuously during high season and links Knightstown on Valentia to Cahirciveen.

The island lies within the gulf stream and consequently the climate is mild throughout the year, many sub tropical p...

I travelled with my husband and three children, two of whom are teenagers and one a young child. The cottage is in a beautiful location overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. It's approximately two miles from the village, Knightstown. The cottage is pleasant , traditional and well-equipped for self-catering. It has an open fireplace and electric heating. It may be a little too cold for those who are used to warmer indoor temperatures but we were happy with our rustic experience.
As a family, we enjoy outdoor activities and were pleased with what Valentia had to offer. We enjoyed long walks and cycles around the island and made great use of the water activities in Knightstown. There is also a children's playground and tennis court there.
We particularly enjoyed the walk up Bray Head, the Valentia Heritage Centre and the second hand bookshop in Knightstown Coffee Shop. The stained glass windows in St. John's Church are very beautiful.
The scenery is breathtaking and the people...

Cottage a little on the small size for 6 adults but that notwithstanding the owners and caretaker couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. The view from the front of the cottage was absolutely wonderful. A car was needed to get down to the harbour town but once there it was easy to while away the morning eating and relaxing and browsing the second hand book shop/ cafe. The Valencia museum was well worth a visit. Across the ferrry into Carciveen or across the bridge into Portree were both short trips and well worth exploring. The night skies were clear and great for stargazing. We even saw dolphins swimming off the cliffs.Skerrig experience also worth a visit but unfortunately the weather not kind enough to allow a trip out to the rocks. more

Management response:

Thanks very much for the feedback. We are now suggesting 4/5 as the maximum party size, although the cottage has 3 good size bedrooms the living space in older properties is quite 'cozy'! more
