Up the winding mountain road to the church square and the top of the village of Montorlin, and a beautiful old farmhouse owned and run by Liza and Andy as a catered ski chalet.

Alastair Sawday's Guides have featured this lovely place in The Guardian as one of 10 chalets to treat yourself to this winter.

The stunning top floor features an open plan living and dining area, with amazing views up and down the Tarentaise valley across to the distant peaks of Mont Blanc. Balconies open off 2 sides of the house from picture windows. The airy living room has huge, squashy sofas, a log fire and an extensive library. Wasn't going to write a review as wanted to keep this place a secret but that wouldn't be fair. If like me you research everything, check everything a million times, worry that you booking the right accomadation, flights, transfers, ski hire, lessons, lift passes and then research it all again. A superb weeks skiing in La Plagne, staying at La Portette. Thanks to Liza for arranging lift passes, transport options etc, made booking very easy. The house has 6 bedrooms on the ground and first floors: three double rooms, two twins, and one family suite with two interconnecting bedrooms. The main room of the suite has a romantic four poster bed; the children's room next door has full length bunk beds. On the first floor one of the twin rooms has the traditional built in wooden curtained beds, which children (and adults!) adore.
Every room has a hairdryer, big fluffy towels and super-efficient radiators; and a jar of smarties by the bed.

Prices are in UK Pounds, per week, per person. WINTER prices (Dec-April) include catering, accommodation, in resort shuttle service, linen, towels, assistance with lessons, ski hire, lift passes. Airport transfers can be arranged separately. Prices given are for adults. There is a 15% discount for 16s and under, and a 10% discount for 65s and over. Infants (>24 months): £50.
SUMMER prices (May - Sept) prices quoted for are for 1 person B&B.

Ferry: Calais: 602.7 mi
Fly, drive or take the train almost to the front door.

Flights: our nearest airports are Chambery (100kms); Geneva (140kms); Lyon (200kms) and Grenoble (180kms). We can provide the airport transfers too: ask us for a quote.

Drive: it takes about 10 hours from Calais, mostly on major (toll) roads. There is plentiful free parking around the chalet.

Train: take the Eurostar from London St Pancreas direct to Bourg Saint Maurice, where we will meet you with our minibus. The service runs on Fridays and Saturdays, either overnight or during the day. www.eurostar.co.uk
