This was my second visit to Muckrach Castle. The first had been during severe weather conditions (so that the access road was inaccessible and we had to park in a road layby, and individually transfer all our food and clothes for a weekend stay on foot!). This second visit benefited from unseasonably warm and mild conditions. We all (10 of us) parked just outside the main entrance to the castle. The driveway is reasonably well-maintained, and even when we did get a light coating of snow/ice it still proved usable.
The castle is in a fantastic location, and is a very well-refurbished/renovated ancient building that provides very good rental accomodation, albeit not 'luxury' level. The ground floor kitchen - in a vaulted space, with a table that comfortably seats 10 - has most of the mod cons. A few niggles, which have been reported: only 1 cafetiere, only 1 teapot...we generally had to make two lots of both to get through all 10 thirsty people! There ideally should be 2 cafetieres... more
