We stayed in Bay View apartment which certainly lived up to its name. The property is a three storey house converted into 3 apartments. We were in the middle one but each has its own access etc. The property is very well furnished with a large bedroom, bathroom and sitting room and a smaller kitchen. There's a communal swimming pool but you have your own outside seating area which was great for relaxing after a hard day sightseeing!
We visited the local bakery every morning to buy fresh rolls / pastries for breakfast which were superb. It's a shortish walk up a few steep hills but well worth it!
Funchal old town is simply gorgeous with a HUGE range of places to eat, the staff are really friendly and nothing is too much trouble. We walked into the old town every night for our evening meal.
