Aurelio met us on the outskirts of Lucca and personally escorted us to Casa Rossa. Although not fancy, this 2 bedroom apartment had everything we needed for a one-week stay in Lucca. Located just inside the city gate, we could walk to all of the local attractions, restaurants and even the grocery store. If you enjoy living like the locals do, you won't find better value in Lucca. The kitchen was well-equipped, and the apartment provided enough space for 2 couples to live comfortably. Aurelio was an excellent host, with a great knowledge of the local area and history.
If you're arriving by rental car, you do have to park outside the city gates, which can be an inconvenience, but we found that we didn't need a car in Lucca. The train station is easily accessible, and rental bikes are everywhere. This apartment has quick access to the city wall, which provides a beautiful walking path around the city, and an opportunity to people watch.
