I stayed for 6 nights with wife and in-laws. Supermarket right across the street is great for self-catering and there are a couple of restaurants, a cafe and newsagents (for buying bus/metro tickets) within 2 minutes walk. Enrico the owner is friendly, helpful and speaks good English. It takes about 40 minutes to get into central Rome - you get a bus to the metro stop (bus stops very close to the apartment and buses are every 10-15 minutes) and then the Metro into the city. It is the end of the Metro line so we always got a seat going into the city.
It is quite a way from Fiumicino airport - you can do it by train and Metro but we opted for taxi which took less than half an hour. It was just over 50 euros on the way (which was what Enrico thought it would be) but somehow 100 on the way back (think the meter must have been not working correctly). Very close to Ciampino airport though so would try and fly there another time. more
