THE ORIGIN OF MONTI DISTRICT FROM ROMAN TIMES

In Roman times the area was densely populated: the upper part of the district (the Baths of Diocletian to Suburra) had a domus and noble named Vicus Patricius (Via Urbana today), while in the low and swampy - the slums, in fact - were living the plebeians, and the area was full of brothels and taverns of ill repute [3].
