    Condo/Apartment –
    1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 4
This luxury Rome apartment is located in the heart of one of the oldest neighborhoods of Rome: Rione Trastevere. You will just fall in love with this coloured and typical Roman area, where you can easily have the impression that you have been there before. Rather than having the atmosphere of a city it has the atmosphere of a small medieval village.

Originally conquered as a strategic goal to remove the enemies living across the river it gradually became inhabited by river workers and foreigners moving to Rome. Its growth was a haphazard conglomeration of rich large villas and poor decrepit homes. Narrow, winding and irregular streets characterized the area known for its proud, tenacious, and genuine people. Its relative isolation and long-standing multicultural character helped to de...

    Additional Location Information
Trastevere is rione XIII of Rome, on the west bank of the Tiber, south of Vatican City. Its name comes from the Latin trans Tiberim, meaning literally “beyond the Tiber”. Its logo is a golden head of a lion on a red background. Trastevere borders to the N the XIV rione, Borgo.
In Rome Regal period , the area across the Tiber belonged to the hostile Etruscans: the romans named it Ripa Etrusca (etruscan bank). Rome conquered it in order to have the control of and access to the river from both sides.
By the time of the Republic in 509, the number of sailors and fishermen making a living from the river had increased, and many of these had taken up residence in Trastevere. There were a lot of people coming from the East, too, mainly Jews and Syrians.
The area started being considered part of the city under Augustus, who divided Rome in 14 regions; the modern Trastevere was the XIV and was called Trans Tiberim.
Thanks to its partial isolation (it was “beyond the Tiber”) and to it...

4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012 for a stay in August 2012

Centrally located in the ideal Roman neighbourhood. Hip, funky, very Italian. This apartment is very spacious, and well-appointed. It was convenient having a kitchen (although we never cooked... too many great places to eat out) and a washing machine. Mr Honey, the keyholder, was very helpful and efficient.

My only disappointment was the shower and bathtub. The shower had a rain-head, but was a small space. There was nowhere to escape the flow of water. I had to get in, then turn it on. The tub was not functioning correctly: the switch between hand-held and faucet did not work, and the drain did not prevent water from draining. Not likely a big deal for everyone, but I was looking forward to that gorgeous tub.

I think Sky TV was available, but I could not get it to function. Perhaps just user error, but written instructions would have been helpful.

Regardless, I would definitely consider this apartment for our next visit.
