Our lovely 4-star graded, 2-bedroom Balfour Apartment, is within Pilrig House - an A-Listed, 17th-century Scottish Townhouse (built 1638), which has a distinguished history & wonderful literary connection with Robert Louis Stevenson; it was his mother's family's home - as a child, RLS often visited and played in the gardens here - he mentions Pilrig House in his novels Kidnapped and Catriona.

The apartment is uniquely located in a tranquil park, yet is only a 15-20 minute stroll (a mile), or 5 minutes by bus (bus-stop within 5 mins' walk of the house) to Edi...

    Additional Location Information
Edinburgh has been nominated as the "Best Place to Live in the UK" and, as listed in the Top 10 Travel Destinations, is recognised as one of the world's most beautiful and historic cities.

At Pilrig House, you are in the heart of the city just a 15-minute walk from Princes Street in the city centre and all of Edinburgh's main attractions. But, you'd be forgiven for thinking that you're in the middle of the Scottish countryside.

From Pilrig House, you are also a 10-minute walk from the fashionable Shore area of Leith on the waterfront - Edinburgh's historic port area, which boasts many recommended wine bars & restaurants on...

5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago for a stay in August 2014

I stayed with my family in the Balfour Apartment at Pilrig House for a week in August of this year. We were in Edinburgh to see theater at the Fringe, and in particular to see our son who was performing in one of the many (thousands?) of productions. The Balfour Apartment, a two bedroom, fully appointed suite, was delightful. It... more

5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2014 for a stay in June 2014

Pilrig House is amazing. Our family of four spent 10 days in the Balfour Apartment and it was everything we had hoped. Debbie and Philip were so helpful and just genuinely nice folk. We also booked a private tour through Michael McKinlay and he was wonderful. If you are going to Edinburgh, this is the place for you. Perfect location,... more
