    Samuel James is a 63ft all steel narrowboat built on a hull supplied by Colecraft and will house up to seven people in comfortable accommodation. The spacious fore cabin gives excellent views over the bow from the dining area and lounge, which has two large settees and a gateleg table.

    An excellently equipped and roomy galley has a full size oven with four burner hob and grill, refrigerator with freezer compartment and sink and drainer. Mealtimes are easily catered for with plenty of worktops and storage and a roof hatch opens for extra ventilation.

    A door leads through to a separate cabin with side hatch, which houses a permanent double bed, large wardrobe, dressing table and en suite bathroom with a bath, shower, vanity basin and freshwater flushing toilet.

    We have two sets of boats, The 'Saturday' boats are available for full weeks (or multiples) for collection Saturday afternoon, 2.30 onwards, or Tuesdays 2.30 from our base in Warwick. The 'Friday' boats are available for full weeks (or multiples), collecting either Friday 2.30 or Monday 2.30. The 'Friday' boats are based at Stockton Top Marina, at the top of the Stockton flight, still on the Grand Union Canal, but offering the option of short breaks with less of the locking, if you are looking for an easy introduction to the delights of the canals.

    Prices quoted are per boat and INCLUSIVE of damage waiver, diesel and gas and VAT at 20%. (Don't forget the boat is the holiday, you don't need to allow for those expensive days out during the week!)

    The only cost we will add on is £25 per dog. These are the prices for one week, please select here for short break prices.

This trip was the forth trip the group had with `Kates Boats` (the second on Samuel James)and sadly will be our last.
We arrived on Friday (4th april) The group had 2 new guests for a long w end .
We got aboard around midday and got underway soon after with plans to go as far as we could with the canals and locks being seasonally quiet .
We made very good progress and moored up at Leamington Spa over night (lovely city)
Up and away 6 am Saturday morning, past Warwick by breakfast and on to the Hatton Flight (amazing sight) at the top of Hatton we aimed to go for a late lunch at Tom of the Woods (as we had done on all previous trips)
We had to go a few miles further past the pub to turn around(large boat)
On turning around DISASTER the engine drive coupling sheared of and we were a drift !!!
The group managed to drag the boat back to the pub and therefor adjacent to a road so as the mechanic could attend (very considerate of us !!)

It is a shame that you told the send out staff that you were going to Warwick (a normal weekend trip) rather than aiming for the Tom of the Woods which is a good 4 days travel there and back. Unfortunately breakdowns do happen, even with the best... more
