This is a very rural setting. If it's rows of identical cabins, discotheques and amusement arcades you want then look elsewhere! If you want to wake up to the sound of waves and seabirds and watch kestrels hover above cattle grazing in green meadows from your windows then this is the place for you.The Steamboat' pub in Carsethorn is a 5 minute walk along the beach.

The Arbigland Estate is the ideal base for mountain biking (minutes from two of the 7 Stanes) Birdwatching (Mersehead 15 mins away) Golf (Southerness Championship Golf Course 10mins away) or collapsing and revelling in the amazing surroundings. The chalets are also close to the equestrian establishment of South Carse. You can bring your horse with you and keep him in the livery yard there so that you can enjoy riding...

    Additional amenities & feature info
Built with 21st technology unlike many of the older log chalets along the Solway Coast these are really well insulated so snug in winter and not too hot in summer. The log burning stoves make them really cosy in the evenings. The kitchens are really well equipped for a foodie holiday.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2014 for a stay in August 2014

My girlfriend and I stayed in Curlu lodge with my two teenage children. It was comfortable and clean with a well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, a fantastic power shower and cosy living area with wood burning stove. We had a lucky week of sunny weather but had the stove on anyway for the fun of it. The beach is literally one minute's walk away which is great for the kids. It is not a sandy beach but much more interesting for that. There's plenty of wood about for making fires and when the tide is out huge flats appear with wading birds. The local pub serves traditional pub grub and Speckled Hen on draught and is well worth a visit or two. There are plenty of activities nearby. We enjoyed the wobbly waterpark at Loch Ken but suggest you give the archery a miss. They also have sailing and there is a water ski centre near the watersports centre. Further afield try Laggan outdoor for mountain balling, Segway safari and the longest zip wire in Scotland (pricey this place but good for a... more
