We stayed in the one-level Cart Shed, just one step down to the bedroom. It's compact but has everything you could possibly need. Hosts Pam and John couldn't be more helpful. . Good bakery and organic store in the village. Good local pubs (the Eskdale in Castleton does all-day food). Danby railway station has four trains a day to Whitby - a fabulous ride. Staithes half an hour away by car - quayside Cod and Lobster good food and real ale. Very sorry to leave, will certainly return. more

Spent a long weekend here, and managed to get the best of the years weather as well as a fantastically comfortable, cosy and secluded cottage.

The cottages are situated in the middle of one of the North Yorkshire National Parks, and as a city person, being able to stand outside and not hear any traffic noise at all was a nice novelty.

The Moors are literally 50 yards from the front door, and it was great to take my dogs out before breakfast and watch the sun rise. There is a strict policy of "dogs must be on leads at all times", as the cottages have free-range wildlife, and depending upon the time of year the Moors are home to ground nesting birds. (Its not a problem, just something to be aware of).

The sea is about 20 minutes drive away, and there are a couple of really nice dog friendly beaches to spend the day. There's also Whitby, and Scarborough within driving distance, and locally there are a lot of tiny villages that look like they've come...
