    Rental Home –
    3 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 5
We need more Summer/Autumn bookings! So we have reduced the price to equal our winter rate.
Fully restored, 2-storey 500 year old stone house in center of historic village. 3 bedrooms – accommodates up to five people. 3-star rating. All linen supplied. Modern, renovated kitchen and bathroom. The house is situated in the medieval village of Caunes Minervois, which nestles between the Montagne Noire (Black Mountain) and the vineyards of the Midi. Caunes is only 20 km from Carcassonne and the Canal du Midi, and is an easy drive from the Mediterranean (1 hour) and Spain (3 hours). It’s less than 2 hours from both Montpellier and Toulouse. There are airports and rental cars at these cities and Carcassonne.

    Additional Location Information
We are in a quiet cul-de-sac in the historic center of the village. Parking is in a public parking area about 70 metres (75 yards) away. In front of the village, the wine plains of the Midi stretch into the distance; the Black Mountain rises immediately behind. Caunes has had a marble quarry, still producing pink/red marble, since Roman days. Within 20km are two World Heritage-listed sites: the citadel at Carcassonne, and the Canal du Midi. Just as close are good limestone caves and the ruined Cathar fortresses of Minerve and Lastours. Of course, great French restaurants are nearby. The village, of 1600 inhabitants, has all services a visitor needs, and the historic center is fascinating to explore. We have an abbey, founded in the 9th century; it houses the local tourist bureaus.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2014 for a stay in July 2014

Great place just down from the abbey, well set up with spacious mai bedroom with great light and cool breeze, modern facilities & appliances. Good places to eat in Caunes and surrounding villages. Really enjoyed our stay inc detour for passports on way back as a reason for another lunch at Cafe de la grande fountaine! more
