Lon Ban is a modern comfortable, airy house designed by a local Architect to take advantage of the wonderful views of the Cuillin Hills and of Loch Harport, the salty-waters of which lap the foreshore below Talisker Distillery in the local village of Carbost.

Skye has many facets to its character from dramatic mountains with some of the world's best climbing to hidden gems like the Fairy Glen near Uig. Take a walk to the Fairy Pools at the base of the Cuillin to see sparkling clear water cascade down the rivers that are formed in the Cuillin.

Visit the ClanDonald centre in Sleat, Dunvegan Castle or the Museum of Island Life in Kilmiur to learn about some of the history of Skye. Visit Staffin museum to see dinosaur fossils. To learn about the Sea Eagle or the Golden Eagle stop off at...

Two alternative driving routes are possible from the south. Via Glasgow, taking the scenic A82 by Loch Lomond, through Glen Coe and Fort William and on to Invergarry. Alternatively, from the east of the country from Edinburgh take the M90/A9 after the Forth Road Bridge. Continue past Perth following signs for Inverness until Dalwhinnie. Here take the A889 then the A86 to Spean Bridge where a right turn on to the A82 meets the route from Glasgow. From Invergarry, take the A87 which passes Eilean Donan Castle and on to the Skye Bridge. After crossing the bridge continue on the A87 through Broadford and on to Sligachan. Take the left turn on to the A863 signposted for Dunvegan. After about 6 miles take the left turn for Carbost on the B8009, continue on the single track road through th...

We arrived after an exhausting week at the Commonwealth Games. Some rest and recuperation was required, and Lon Ban provided. We couldn't fault the property. Everything was simply wonderful. I loved our huge bedroom, with views to loch and mountain. Even cooking was a pleasure as the kitchen was so well-equipped. I have never hired a property where all the... more

Management response:

Glad you enjoy the Games & that Skye refreshed you. Let you in to a secret, the crockery is what I'd love in my own house. I live in hope. You are welcome back anytime. more

5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2014 for a stay in July 2014

We travelled as a family group in July; my husband and I, our daughter and her husband and his parents. The "cottage" was spectacular. The rooms are so spacious. Everything is so clean and modern. When my son-in-law was booking, I noted that since we were three adult couples travelling together, we all needed our own space, our own bathrooms... more

Management response:

Thank-you for taking the time to review Lon Ban, I'll pass on your comment about how clean the house was to the ladies that help me as I can't take all the credit. I have to say that you did hit it lucky with the weather as it has been a bit strange this year, think the whole of the... more

You have to see it to believe it but it's true: the pictures can't do this house justice. Why? A few things make it a true home: extremely clean, all the comfort from home, private bathrooms for every room, LOTS of books/maps/brochures/even cooking books! and of course... A superb view you can not put in a picture! (tip: bring your... more

Management response:

Gosh thank-you, makes me think we should move in ourselves. Good tip about binoculars should have thought about supplying them myself, will put a pair in. Really must visit fairy pools too, terrible, live just down the road! more
