I highly recommend this property. It is in the hills, in a quiet location with a panoramic view to the coast, but is very centrally located to everything in the region. Only 5 mins to Pietrasanta, which has become well known for modern art and has a number of great restaurants (Il Circo is excellent). Forte di Marme is 15 mins drive and has very chic shopping and a great antiques fair on Saturdays. Lucca and Pisa are within an easy drive, as are the marble quarries. Also, recommend driving to Porto Venere and catch the ferry to Cinque Terre - you see much more from the ferry and can get on and off at each town to explore further.
The inside of the villa is ornate and very spacious, having been limited to only 8 rooms and for much of the time we had the place to ourselves. The breakfasts are sumptuous and the gardens which date back to 15th century are beautifully maintained. Just watch out for the moquitos if lying by the pool.
