Taxis

Catching a taxi in Honolulu is not quite as easy as in a major city like New York or San Francisco, but not difficult. And if you're leaving an attraction or a restaurant and need a taxi, you can always ask someone at the establishment to call a taxi for you. A variety of taxi services, limo services, and shuttles are available. There are stands all over Waikiki with free books that include not only entertainment and dining options, but also companies for shuttle, limo and taxi information and sometimes discount coupons.

To verify or calculate fares in advance, try using the Honolulu Taxi Fare Calculator. It uses current fares and considers for potential flat rates.

Charley's Taxi serves the Hilton Hawaiian Village, Marriott Waikiki Beach Hotel, Outrigger Luana, KoOlina Resort and many smaller hotels in Waikiki.  Charley's also provides Waikele Premium Outlets with taxi service.   With an appointment, Charley's Taxi with airport permittee stickers may pick up schedule appointments.    Charleys serves the  local community.  Their state-of-the-art Intellifleet system uses GPS to  dispatch cars quickly, 24/7.

TheCab Company provides taxi services at the Major Hotels in Waikiki (Hyatt, Sheraton, Pacific Beach, Waikiki Beach Hotel and many small hotels in Waikiki.  TheCAB serves Ala Moana Shopping Center, Kahala Mall, Wall Mart and Don Quijote.   TheCAB provides taxi services to the communities, the Island of O'ahu and all military bases.   With a GPS system, TheCab provides 24/7 services.

Rental Cars

Cars can be rented from the airport on arrival, or from several shops in Waikiki. On occasion, you can find a good package deal from the vendors near Waikiki- though often your car will not come from one of the well-known rental agencies, it can still save you some money.  Generally an airport rental will cost a bit more, and really isn't a benefit while in Waikiki due to limited parking and the ability to walk to so many things. Some people find that picking up a rental car near the airport results in a lower rate than getting it in Waikiki. It can be much less to have one person take the bus to the airport to pick up and return a rental car, check around in advance of your trip. Just be aware that the taxes are the same whether you rent at the airport or off airport property.

Good sites for advance booking:

If you need a large capacity vehicle, visit JN Rentals located outside of the Honolulu International Airport, across the street from Alamo Rent a Car.  They rent 7, 8, 12 and 15 passenger vans.
