There is a wonderful mansion not to be missed- it is ROUGH POINT, the home of Doris Duke.
It was built for a Vanderbilt, and purchased by Doris's father in 1922. She used this house in her adult years. You will be amazed by the setting, and to be surrounded by Ming vases, Gainesborough and Van Dyke paintings and Louis the IV furniture. As you see all this you are reminded that this furniture was used daily and her DOGS laid on it!!
Admission is $25 for adults and free for children under 12. Parking is available at the property. The money goes to support the home and the Newport Restoration Foundation- started by Doris to preserve 18th century Newport homes.
