The most "Salem" place to dine with a view is Pickering Wharf. This waterside "marketplace" is a self-contained area with specialty shops, restaurants and bars, residential condominuims and a marina. It has a cosy, old-fashioned feel and is very safe for strolling after dark. There are several restaurants and bars to choose from (see list below) and most have a view of the water and of Marblehead across the way. A full-sized replica of a 19th century China trading ship, the Friendship, is docked at adjoining Derby Wharf and a water shuttle is available to take diners to a floating restaurant in the harbor during warm weather months. No matter the season, the view is splendid. Often there are luxury yachts tied up at the marina. After dinner, consider taking a walk and enjoying the sights and sounds.
