Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park both place a heavy focus on the culture and history of the Native American Indian tribes that were the original inhabitants of the area. Each year, Estes Park hosts several special events that are designed to celebrate American Indian heritage and to teach visitors and tourists about the importance and significance of the Town’s history.

Both Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park are both home to many artifacts that have cultural significance. There are several buildings and museums in the area which house items such as spearheads used for hunting purposes by the Ute Indian Tribe, ancient teepee rings and poles, and thousands of other items found in the area over the course of hundreds of years.

In addition to museums, there are many other signs of the ancient American Indian culture that can be seen all over the place. Historical structures are present in the Park, such as roads and bridges, and there are many areas which can be viewed where archaeologists have found prehistoric artifacts. There also specific and preserved locations where American Indians held their ceremonies. The Park is required by law to protect all of the cultural resources within it. Because of this protection, visitors are able to view, learn about, and appreciate the cultural history of the area.
