Over 300 days of sunshine per year has inspired the name of the Albuquerque airport. It is called a "sunport" rather than an "airport." Access 8 commercial airlines and 4 regional jet services at the
Albuqueque International Sunport. The sunport offers nonstop service to 27 cities including Los Angeles, Phoenix, Chicago, and Baltimore.
For a mid-size airport, there seems to be an innumerable choice of rental car companies at the sunport. Albuquerque Sunport is exit 221 and 222A off the I-25 freeway. It is 4 miles from the primary corporate complex and less than 2 miles from downtown Albuquerque.
Consult the simple driving directions to pickup up late group travelers or drive to nearby hotels.
Taxi services such as cabs, shuttles, and limos are on-call directly from the airport. Schedule taxis in advance or pickup the nearest courtesy phone for last-minute transportation changes.
Alternatively, many airport-specific hotels provide free shuttles and the SunTran bus service operates a stop at the sunport's main terminal. Contact SunTran for an exact schedule of departure. The bus service times are limited on certain days of the week. It is only convenient for travel in and around downtown Albuquerque. A car is highly advisable for exploration of outlying and desert areas.
