When to go....
Woodstock is an all round year destination. Traditionally folks come for the "Fall" in mid October - early November which is beautiful, crowded and expensive. However it is spectacular. The spring months of May & June can also have glorious colour as life kicks in after the long hard winter. In these months the shade of green can take many forms and the town is quieter, the resturants emptier and the accommodation cheaper.
Winter is magical, as the trees have white lights and the ground is covered in snow. On a crisp winters days with a hard frost and a clear blue sunny sky, you would think Bing Crosby had filmed White Christmas here.
The only months that can be difficult are April which is traditionally "mud" season, but the village escapes this. This is when the snow melts and in the past it has been grey, wet & dull. However in the last few years this has been a bit of a non event as the snow falls have been less. As the ski resorts like Killington make a lot of artifical snow the skiing is still good, but the roads are easy to navigate. Late November is also traditionally quiet as the trees are bald and the snow is only just starting to fall. However i would suggest that the Woodstock region has enough to do all year round.
If you are travelling from Europe then Woodstock can offer great value at traditionally expensive periods in Europe. For instance Christmas Day and Easter are considered low season and the area is far quieter than it would be in Europe. Also mid week outside of the "Fall" period can also offer visitors some good deals for accommodation.
