Fans of corndogs will rejoice in Springfield as this is the birth city of the culinary creation. Another sandwich that claims its home here is the lesser-known "horseshoe sandwich" which is a sort of double hamburger open-faced sandwich with cheese sauce and streak fries. It sounds strange but eveyone loves it, the ponyshoe is a smaller version. Chilli was misspelled on a sign of "Don's Chilli Parlor" an eatery that dates back to 1909. But celebrating the innocent mistake, Illinois State Legislature proclaimed its capital the "Chilli Captial of the World", in 1993.

Today's Springfield offers many more options besides just corndogs. Local favorites include  Maldaner's Restaurant for mouth watering steaks. Even if corndogs aren't your favorite, the menu features a wide variety of choices many breakfast items like eggs, French toast, and pancakes.
