Springfield is a great place for families to come and soak up in American History. There are numerous noteworthy museums, most of which of course are in honor of Abraham Lincoln. The National Park Site of Lincoln's home will entertain for hours and includes educational children's programs such as the "Junior Ranger" program which offers kids the chance to earn a badge upon completion. Another Lincoln museum is the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Museum and if that's not enough, you can also visit the 16th president's tomb site.
When you've had your Lincoln fill, the Illinois State Museum offers a variety of exhibits mainly that will walk you through the land's people and cultural history. Children can be better entertained at the Springfield Children's Museum however, located downtown. Or at the Henson Robinson Zoo which highlights more than 90 species. Finally, the Washington Park Botanical Garden will make for a peaceful visit.
Families can bet on a great stay at the State House Inn: A Clarion Collection Hotel.
