Virtually all of the roads leading to/from Silver City have scenic views. In fact, there may be few places inside Silver City itself where you can't see a hillside or mountain nearby. Some places within Silver City with great views:

  • Market St., just east of US 180 West;
  • Western New Mexico University, especially looking east from outside the Fine Arts Center Theatre;
  • The Wal-Mart parking lot (this is not a joke!).

Especially scenic drives include:

  • NM152 from where it begins a few miles east of Silver City all the way to where it ends at I-25 near Truth or Consequences. You'll go through a portion of the Gila National Forest, up and down mountains and around hairpin turns.
  • US 180 West from Silver City to Glenwood has a couple of scenic overlooks that should not be overlooked.
  • NM15 from Silver City north through Pinos Altos all the way to the Gila Cliff Dwellings. It's 44 miles long and will take two hours to drive one-way-- but it's worth every mile and minute.
