First-time visitors beware: this town has a way of getting under your skin and making you come back for more. There is a certain energy here that seems to affect people, and a significant number of visitors find themselves returning-- and more than a few of them come back to stay.

Two practical bits of info for first-time visitors:

1. Silver City is on Mountain time and, like all of New Mexico, switches to Daylight Savings Time at 2:00 a.m. on the second Sunday
in March and switches back to Standard Time on the first Sunday in November. This is especially important to those traveling from Arizona-- during Daylight Savings Time New Mexico is one hour LATER than you are, so plan your trip accordingly so you don't get here too late to visit, shop, or dine.

2. The tax rate in Silver City is currently 7.75% and applies to most goods AND services (if you see a doctor, for example, he/she will charge you this tax). There is an additional tax on lodging.
