Bonaventure Cemetery is located in Thunderbolt, Chatham Co. GA, just to the southeast of the city of Savannah. This is not within walking distance of Savannah's historic district.

Bonaventure was originally Bonaventure Plantation owned by John Mulryne.  His daughter married into the Tattnall family and several generations of Tattnals lived at Bonaventure.   Several years after the plantation house was destroyed in a fire,  the Tattnal family sold the property to Mr. Wiltberger and he formed the Evergreen Cemetery Company and in 1907 it was purchased by the City of Savannah and renamed Bonaventure.
