One of the most spectacular sites in Savannah is also free to visit:  The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist.

The Cathedral is on Abercorn Street at Lafayette Square.   Over 100 years old, the Cathedral completed an almost $13 million restoration in 2000.

The Cathedral is open to the public for free from 8:00am to 5:00pm everyday and often there are volunteer docents to help guests.  The only time you can't tour is during worship (although you are welcome to join them for Mass).  There is a daily Mass at noon Monday-Saturday but it is over by 12:30.  Sunday Masses are 8:00am, 10:00am and 11:30pm.

Hint - if you only have a Saturday here, visit the Cathedral in the morning.  It is often booked for weddings on Saturday afternoons.
