First, The Chop House has opened in Tinseltown. The former Legendz, and before that Gallery Bistro, promises to be an affordable upscale night out. As the name implies, the new place specializes in steaks and chops, but the menu has something for every price point, including pasta, fish, lamb, veal, duck and chicken.
The interior has been totally redone, providing for more intimate dining. Soon the banquet room will be finished for larger parties.
Joe DeMarco, who last cooked at Aromas in Ponte Vedra Beach, is in charge of the kitchen. I'll let you know up front I am a big fan of DeMarco's food. In his youth, he was the chef at the Manhattan classic The Russian Tea Room and also cooked at Tavern on the Green and Windows on the World.
My advice is to check out the lunch buffet (available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday) to get an idea of what the food is like. It's all prepared fresh and in-house. And at just $7.95, it's one of the best deals around.
Those who enjoy wine also will want to check out the place because Shawn Jernigan, general manager at the former Vinoe in Ponte Vedra Beach, is general manager here and brings his love of wine to the new location.
The Chop House is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and 5 to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
