From sweet, juicy apricots to red ripe cherries, the Ventura County Certified Farmers’ Market offers fine California fresh grown fruits.

Ken’s Top Notch Produce is one participant who regularly makes the trip from their Fresno farm to the Thousand Oaks Market.  At their stand, shoppers can find a wide variety of stone fruits such as peaches, nectarines, apricots, plums and the very popular pluot.  One of the more unique fruits to come to market this year is the “mango nectarine," which resembles a mango flavor. The sub acid nectarines are also a favorite with their candy-sweet flavors and the top-selling pluot, a plum crossed with an apricot, remains a top favorite.

Jack’s Fruit is another participant at both the Downtown Ventura Farmers’ Market on Saturday mornings and Santa Clarita Farmers’ Market on Sundays. They offer flavorful apriums and different varieties of pluots.  Shoppers will also find a large selection of peaches, nectarines and apricots.

Besides the stone fruits, shoppers can also purchase cherries at the Thousand Oaks site. Erickson Farms specializes in cherries and is currently offering two varieties of cherries – Brooks and Tulare. The sweet tasting, Rainier cherry will debut later in the season and shoppers can pick up their choices under Erickson’s “big red tent.”

The Ventura County Certified Farmers’ Market Association (VCCFMA) has been in existence since 1986. VCCFMA is a non-profit farmers’ cooperative and operates four weekly certified farmers’ markets. In order to participate in a VCCFMA market, all farmers and producers must raise, catch, gather, grow or otherwise produce the product they sell.
