Carlsbad is a great vacation spot for family, and kids. There are plenty of opportunities for enjoying nature. Carlsbad Caverns is the most popular destination, but it is not the only one.

- The Living Desert Zoo and Garden State Park is zoo where you can walk amid the desert landscape. Kids can enjoy one-day long camp programs and tours at night when they are guided with flashlights to view the animals. Adults pay $5, 7 to 12 year-old kids $3 and it is free for kids under 6.

- Guadalupe Mountains National Park and Lincoln National Forest. If your family is into hiking, these are the places to go. Plenty of different trails will make everybody happy. Camping, horseback riding and biking are other options. Both parks include facilities for picnicking.

- Beach Park Pecos River. Along the bank of Pecos river, you will find the Municipal Beach Park where many activities and events take place year round. Families can navigate in the river with paddle boats that can be rented at the port ,or on board a bigger boat, the George Washington. Consider bringing your food as there is a big picnic area. Kids will certainly enjoy video games and pool tables at the Riverwalk Recreation Center. You can always walk along the river and enjoy the festive environment.
