General Reading

If you’re heading to San Diego to enjoy the beautiful weather and the great beaches, pick up a copy of Beach Walking in San Diego County, by William Carroll, which gives detailed information about access, facilities, swimming, surfing and more for all of this area’s 120 miles of coast.  You may also want to check out his more recent volume, Beach & Park Access Guide for San Diego.

San Diego Legends: Events, People and Places that Made History, by Jack Scheffer Innis, is an entertaining collection of stories about the city and its important residents.  Richard W. Crawford’s Stranger than Fiction: Vignettes of San Diego History is a shorter but similar work.

Hidden San Diego, by Ellen Clark, gives inside tips about lesser known things that are under the radar of most tourists.  If you’ve visited San Diego before and are going back, this book should give you lots of good ideas for new things to see and do.
