Went to the Top of the Mark on Friday night, April 18, 2008 for drinks, dessert and dancing and had a lovely time! There were two couples. Arrived about 8:30pm (before the 9pm start time for the $10 cover charge) and were seated within five minutes at a nice table for four close to the dance floor and piano where the views of the city lights could be seen. The waiter was fantastic and provided great service throughout the night. Had three rounds of drinks, desserts (the chocolate dessert as well as the opera cake were delicious and the presentation gorgeous) and the waiter kept the water glasses full. They use real silver utensils and lovely china plates. The live music started at 9pm. It was a six-piece band and the way the website describes it, it sounds like big band/jazz music. But, tjhey were playing more contemporary music and asking for requests. Found that the band didn't know very many songs and took a number of breaks to try to figure out how to sing the songs being requested by the audience. The group requested "Hotel California", "Joy to the World (Jeremiah was a bull-frog)" and anything by Fleetwood Mac -- they didn't know any of these which was strange. Maybe this band may have been a replacement band for the usual weekly band that plays on Fridays at the Top of the Mark. Regardless though, danced and had a very lovely time in a very lovely and classy atmosphere that provided good service. The employees were all very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend this as a nice place to go and see the city lights at night and dance in a classy, dressy atmosphere!
