Travelers wanting a non-touristy, moderately-priced (entrees $18 to $24) and enthusiastically-reviewed Neapolitan pizza restaurant where San Franciscans dine in a casual, hip and welcoming atmosphere will do well to try Flour + Water, a new place in the Mission District. As a neighborhood place, Flour+Water takes some reservations (limited to parties of no more than 6) preferring to keep many tables for walk-ins. Walk-ins are urged to arrive between 5:30 and 7 or after 10 to avoid a wait....but it seems many think it's worth the wait.

Esteemed SFChronicle food critic Michael Bauer pronounced Flour + Water 'a winner', and said that if he didn't know better he'd think pizzaiolo Jon Darsky  had been making thin crust, wood-fired pizza for decades. Those pizzas and Chef Tom McNaughton's creative salads, hand-made pastas, homemade charcuterie and desserts have created a very noticeable media buzz since this intimate place opened in May 2009, and a quick google search will reveal a number of excellent reviews in the SF press.
