When compared to the islands of Maui, Oahu and Hawaii, Kauai is the most laid back and quiet of the bunch.  The nightlife scene in Lihue reflects this same atmosphere, and although there are a few options for a night out, most of them are found at tourist locations such as hotels.

There are a few bars throughout the town of Lihue, but none of them are extremely wild.  But a loud and crazy bar really wouldn’t fit into this town.  What is available is a handful of locally owned establishments offering laid back environments where sipping mai tais with friends, while soaking in the island vibe is the norm.  A partial list of these places, along with location and contact information can be seen at the Bar List page.   Rob’s Good Times Grill offers pool tables, a live DJ on the weekends, and karaoke.  Happy hour is from 2pm – 8pm daily. In the Coconut Marketplace is Tradewinds Bar, and they have live music on the weekends.  In Kapaa is the Pearl lounge, a small club with music and dancing

The Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club frequently offers live nightlife entertainment, including hula shows and musical acts.

Many other resorts also offer hula shows of similar styles.

Another option for entertainment after the sun goes down is catching a movie.  The local theater in Lihue is Kukui Grove Cinema.
