Milwaukee is no doubt a great city with a lot of great people and fun attractions.  But like most people living in any city, it is nice to take a day-cation once in awhile.  Some great suggestions to change your latitude, a little bit anyway, are a few day trip ideas listed below that do not require an overnight hotel stay.

One nice day trip from Milwaukee, is a visit to Madison, and Frank Lloyd Wright's Spring Green. This is a great trip if you leave early and arrive in Madison for breakfast or lunch. Spend the afternoon in Wisconsin's state capital, and drive a bit further to Spring Green. It is lovely and worth a visit off you like architectural history. Have dinner in Madison, and then drive back home. Great day trip get away out of the hustle and bustle of Milwaukee.

A second nice day-cation outside of Milwaukee is a visit up the Lake Michigan coast to to Kohler spa and Terre Andre Park. The cities of Kohler and Sheboygan are  a great day trip from Milwaukee, and you can stop for breakfast in Port Washington, and head to Terre Andre State Park. There you can sit amongst the Sand Dunes, and have a pic-nic on the beach. Aterward, enjoy the hiking trails in the forest and on the beach. Quite a gem. Afterward stop in Kohler for dinner at one of the restaurants at the American Club. Afterward, drive home after a busy day at the Lake Michigan shores of Milwaukee.

Stop at round Starbucks on the way home, and set cruise control back to Cream City.

Finally, a day trip to the great city of Chicago and its suburbs is always a fun experience if you like the hustle and bustle of the large city. Taking the Amtrak train from Downtown Milwaukee or Miwaukee's airport to Chicago is the best hastle-free plan. Check the Amtrak website for train departure times.  Once in Chicago, take a taxi everywhere. Many surprises await you in Chicago, but make sure you take the first train, and the last train to maximize your day. You will return exhausted and say it feels good to be home.

For those that live in the Milwaukee suburbs, try a day- cation to downtown Milwaukee. Consider staying overnight in one of the great Milwaukee hotels and be a tourist in your own city. Enjoy the vibe that being downtown brings to those who don't have to drive home to the suburbs. There is so much to do and everything is so accessible. Enjoy!
