There are a good number of pubs and bars in the Tacoma area. For dancing, try the Loft (2106 Pacific Ave, Suite 100), an trendy, upscale nightclub with a dress code to match.

For some quieter entertainment, there is live jazz music at Jazzbones (6th and Pine). Also try Hell’s Kitchen (3829 6th Ave), a dive bar with an arcade, pool table, and plenty of rock music. Some of the evening shows are for 21-up only, but there are plenty of 18-year olds on regular nights as well.

Pubs and bars are available in great abundance in Tacoma. Engine House No. 9 (611 North Pine) is a converted firehouse that now offers an excellent menu and house-brewed beers. Try to get a seat outside if the weather is nice, though there may be some smokers in this area. The Swiss Pub (1904 South Jefferson Ave) has pool tables and features live bands and dancing on the weekends. It has a wide selection of tap beers and is a popular hangout for college students from the University of Washington-Tacoma. For more of a loungy feel, go to The Mix (635 St. Helens Ave), which has TVs, pool tables, darts, karaoke and caters to a mostly gay crowd although it's now a pretty mixed clientele (hench their name).  Just down the street from the Mix is the Silverstone, a gay bar/disco that normally is very busy on weekends, much quieter on weeknights.
