Every Friday during the summer, the Alaska Ferry loads up and departs  at 6PM at the Fairhaven Pier.

It is a treat to walk down along the salmon creek  that feeds into the Bay here and watch the different folks go to Alaska for what? Escape? The Future? New Beginnings? A reach back to homesteading?

They may have a yellow bus, be pitching a tent on deck, nursing a VW bus (many here in Fairhaven), moving horses or stock.

The stories - you can see them here.

And the stories of Fairhaven. The canneries gone, the wisps remaining. The brick town hoping for a railway that never came. The trees that are gone.
