Go to Utah Olympic Park, yes, the one where some of the 2002 Winter Games were held, and sign up for the FLY program, which runs from 1-6 pm for the one day school. You, along with 11 others, be suited with a wet/dry suit, and trained on jumping into the "big pool". You'll begin with simple "dives" and "twists" into the pool, learn how to "glide" on the carpeted ramp, and finally, get a chance to show your stuff! The Park accepts kids as young as 8 into the program, but big kids (that's you) sign up, too. For only $65, and all equipment is included.
If one day isn't enough, a 3 day camp is also held. Contact the Olympic Park prior to your arrival to secure a space.
Yes, the park has a zip line, alpine slide, a museum, and big air shows as well, but the experience of each of those won't add up to you being the "flying ace". The zip line is a FAST ride, and the initial out-the-door feeling is exhilirating. The alpine slide was cool in that you were on an alpine "bridge", but it seemed quite slow and very curvy compared to other slides in the area. The big air show is good to see- and it lasts all of 30 minutes.Two-hour intro lessons start at $95 this summer. There are also options for a private lesson, multi-day programs and week-long camps. Current info and rates for Utah Olympic Park's FLY Programs available online.
