Sea Center is a free to the public  marine aquarium, fish hatchery and education center.  The facility opened in 1996 with five large and three small tanks featuring Texas marine life, the largest redfish hatchery in  the world with 36 one-acre fish culture ponds, and outdoor wetland exhibit and a youth fishing pond.  As of October 2010, the facility will have hosted over 1 million visitors.  The visitors center is manned by friendly volunteers willing to answer any and all questions about Texas marine life.  Hatchery tours are available, don't hesitate to ask the person at the entrance.   The inhabitants of the tanks include local marine wildlife from crabs and sea anemones to nurse sharks, groupers and moray eels in the largest tank.  Moderately busy in the summer months when school is out, the center has less traffic in the fall and winter when not being visited by a school field trip.   There is a gift shop near the entrance and donations are appreciated but not expected.
