Although many people may not associate art museums with Texas, the Irving area is home to two small but excellent ones. The Sid Richardson collection of Western Art is located in downtown Fort Worth on Main Street and houses works by the two famous Western artists Frederic Remington and Charles M. Russell. The museum was founded from the personal collection of Texas millionaire oil tycoon, Sid Richardson, after his death and is considered to be one of the best collections of Western art in the world. The museum has continued buying and acquiring art since its founding. See the museum's website for hours and directions.
Also in nearby Fort Worth is the Kimbell Art Museum, a small museum housing classic paintings from masters such as Rembrandt and Degas. They also have collections of Asian art and Pre-Columbian art. Admission to the permanent collection is free. Charge for special exhibits. See their website for hours and details.
