Weather & When to Go

Galveston’s main tourist season is the summer. The climate is very tropical and it can get rather hot and you can expect occasional (quick moving) thunderstorms. Hurricane season runs from June to the end of November, so keep that in mind, but there is really nothing you can do to predict a hurricane until it is about to arrive. There is a good hurricane guide on the link below:

If you want to visit Galveston, but want to avoid the crowds try visiting before June or after August. Once summer vacation is over the crowds tend to die down and you won’t have to fight for a spot on the beach. The weather will still be warm enough to lay out and the water stays warm enough for swimming. For people nearby looking for a fun day trip, you can visit anytime of year and find plenty to do with all of the museums and the strand open year round.
