If you’re heading to the “Gateway to the Plains” there is always something for the whole family. And of course you can even travel back in time to the 1880s… or a close facsimile anyway. The Buffalo Ride Cowboy Ghost Town features an Old West main street with life sized animated mannequins who will reenact the life of the day. This family version is more myth than history, but it also includes a collection of authentic artifacts from the past.

At the Grand Plains Zoo visitors can see more than 500 animals from near and far, including a baby rhino, snow leopards and even penguins! There is a petting zoo, along with a small train and carrousel to ride.

There is also year round fun in Sioux Falls. In the summer this means a trip to the Wild West Waterpark, which is the largest one in South Dakota, complete with waterslides, a lazy river, sand volleyball and an activity pool.

The fun doesn’t stop in the winter either, and the Great Bear Recreation Park offers skiing and snowboard, with 12 runs that cater to beginners and advanced skiers alike, including full lighted runs for night skiing. There is even a snowtubing hill with six lanes dedicated to tubbing.
