There are several sports teams that are based out of Wilkes Barre, and you can go and see them play anytime they are home. The Scranton/Wilkes Barre Red Barrons are a minor league baseball team based out of the Scranton/Wilkes Barre area. For 18 years the Red Barrons were the Triple-A affiliate for the Philadelphia Phillies, but they have recently parted ways. Another team that you can see when you are in the area are the Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins, a member of the American Hockey League. The Penguins play in Wilkes Barre at the Wachovia Arena, and they draw a pretty nice crowd every year. The Wilkes Barre/Scranton Pioneers are an Arena Football League team that was added in 2002. They also play in the Wachovia Arena and draw a good crowd as well. Though these teams do have a big fan base, you shouldn't have a problem getting tickets if you show up on the day of the events. It might be harder to get good seats, but you should definitely be able to get seats somewhere. There are also a couple of raceways in the area, as well as a number of other sports that you can participate in.
