Portland has a wide and varied dining scene, with dozens of great restaurants in a wide range of prices. For those who may want gluten free food, it is available in Portland, and below are some examples of places that offer options.
The Corbett and Hawthorne Fish Houses
On her first visit to the Corbett Fish House she was amazed, and pleased, to learn that they used only rice flour to coat their fish and ships and that instead of being faced with one or two choices on their menu she had the entire thing to choose from. Try their New England Clam Chowder, thickened with brown rice flour. For dessert, one can chose from a range of GF (Gluten Free) cheesecakes and her personal favorite, the Coconut Rum Torte. This dreamy dessert is made up of coconut macaroons soaked in rum and combined with chocolate to form an amazing culinary treat--using NO wheat flour! Even better, many of their staff is celiac or GF themselvs so they understand how hard it can be to dine out. For those environmentally concious among you, they also adhere to the Monterey Bay Aqauarium guidelines for sustainable fishing--and they are serious about it.
Pasta In Sellwood
Assagio offers GF clients a wonderful choice of pasta dishes all made with brown rice pasta, and all you have to do is ask them for a GF menu when you arrive. The spaghetti limone with prawns is excellent, finish it off with their flourless chocolate cake for a treat for your sweet tooth!
Peruvian In the Pearl
A GF friendly establishment, they participate in the Gluten Intollerance Group's (GIG) educational program that trains their staff in the possible pitfalls on the menu for their GF clients.
