Winston-Salem shares a commercial airport with nearby Greensboro and High Point. Piedmont Triad International airport (code GSO) is about a 20 minute drive from downtown. Several carriers have regular schedules to and from GSO.
Further down the road, Charlotte Douglas International Airport (code CLT) is a hub for US-Airways and has a number of international flights to places like London and Frankfurt. It is only 70 miles away and therefore one can easily rent a car at the Charlotte airport and finish the journey. The Charlotte Douglas Airport has many rental car services in the airport such as the following:
Another option is Raleigh-Durham airport (code RDU) , which is about 2 hours drive east of Winston-Salem. One can sometimes get a good price at this airport, due to a few low-cost airlines that operate there.
From the east and west one drives into Winston-Salem from Interstate-40 the east and west expressways. From the north one should be on U.S. 311 , 52, or 158 and from the south, U.S. 52.
