What's better than visiting a great city is doing so while there is a great event going on. Showcases of culture, traditions, and just plain ol' reasons to celebrate make Durham all the more fun. You can start by first searching www.durhameventcalendar.com and using their interactivce calendar to find out if there is a festival when you are planning to go. But then check out the following events and festivals below that may lure you to visit at particular times.

In September is the Troika Music Festival which is rock and roll concert week.  Also in September is Centerfest & in 2008 on the same weekend is the Bull Durham Blues Festival.

The World Beer Fest takes place in October.

The Taste of Durham is a fabulous time to visit the city and taste the local specialties, catch some outdoor music concerts, and mingle with locals and visitors alike. The Taste goes on annually in May.

The Bimbe Cultural Arts Festival takes place in July and is one of the country's oldest culture fests. It celebrates African American art and crafts; the celebration includes food and music on top of it all.

The Annual North Carolina Gay and Lesbian Film Festival has been a state tradition for more than a decade. The film fest is held right in Durham and brings in many visitors. The festival takes place in August but check their website for dates and movie listings. That isn't the only film festival in Durham however, there is also the Full Frame Documentary Film Fesitval in April.
