For plays, the Actor’s Theatre of Charlotte, a contemporary, professional theater company, produces works by new and thought-provoking playwrights. Patrons can see a diverse array of comedy and drama. Theatre Charlotte , the state’s oldest community theater dating back to 1927, produces five plays each season.
For music, the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra performs 100 concerts annually, including Classical, Pops, Mostly Mozarts, Lollipops, and free Summer Pops concerts, from September to May. Opera Carolina, the state’s largest professional opera company, presents mainstage productions of traditional grand operas, operettas, and contemporary operas starring international guest artists alongside regional artists, from October through April. The Charlotte Philharmonic Orchestra, a 75-member professional orchestra, produces a mix of symphonic, popular music, dance, and operatic repertoire.
For a mix of both, the Moving Poets Theater of Dance is a professional performing arts company that merges contemporary dance and theater with visual arts, music, and video, to bring great works of literature to life.
Coming soon, The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, a new Mint Museum, the Knight Theater, and the Harvey B. Gantt African-American Arts & Cultural Center will offer visitors big possibilities.
