The Syracuse sporting scene is absolutely dominated by the Orange of Syracuse University.  Perennial contenders for the NCAA championship in men's basketball, the football team also has had their moment in the sun, with notable players such as Donovan McNabb and Jim Brown playing their college ball for the Orange.

Both men's basketball and football are rabidly followed in the Central N.Y. area, as there is little else on the sporting scene outside of high school sports.  Both teams play in the large, impersonal, aging Carrier Dome, and the basketball team has led the nation in attendance several times throughout their past due to playing all of their games in a dome. The Carrier Dome also often serves as host to NCAA tournament regional games and is a concert venue for the larger "mega-bands".

Perhaps the most successful of all Syracuse college teams, the lacrosse team is always one of the nation's best, with several national championships (as well as notable players such as the Gait brothers and Jim Brown (yes, that Jim Brown) playing for the team).

Outside of the Orange, high school sports seems to dominate the local sporting pages.

Also in the area is the Syracuse Sky Chiefs - the AAA minor league baseball affliate of the Washington Nationals.    www.skychiefs.com
