Zanzibar is a fascinating place and well worth a visit. Beautiful beaches and crystal clear warm water make it an ideal place to relax while Stonetown is a real relic of a bygone era. Include a walking tour of Stonetown really good but be prepared for the night markets.  Though don't be afraid to enjoy the food!   After a guided tour you will feel comfortable just roaming around the fascinating narrow winding streets and discovering all their delights.

A visit to Mercurys beachside bar and restaurant (so named after Freddy Mercury) great for watching the sunset is also a must do. Also good for watching sunset is Africa House Hotel.  All the tourists crowd there but its worth it.  It has great views and wonderful cocktails with great service.  Arrive about an hour before to get good seats.  The hotel itself is worth checking out beautifully restored to former glory.

The beaches in the north are considered most highly.  Go to Nungwi for a more lively atmosphere and to neighbouring Kendwa for the quieter beach that is only just being discovered.
